CPL Racing offer precision line boring to four cylinder engine blocks. Our process is unique in order to achieve the extremely high levels of precision required by the engine and bearing manufacturers. (Typically plus 20 microns, minus zero).
Our procedure is superior to commercially available systems due to:
- We line bore vertically – this ensures that there is no ‘sag’ in the bar. All commercially available line boring systems bore horizontally, which risks ‘sagging’ of the boring bar, thereby reducing accuracy.
- CPL Racing’s line boring equipment is run on air bearings. Air bearings are the bearings of choice of both machinery and metrology equipment manufacturers, where only the highest precision will do. Regular bearings used by commercially available line boring equipment have too much clearance to be able achieve the required tolerances.
- Commercial line boring machines are manufactured long enough to facilitate many designs of engine block, e.g. eight cylinder inline blocks. The longer the machine is, the lower the level of accuracy. Our line boring equipment is specifically built only for four cylinder engines.
- Commercial line boring machines normally have a small diameter bar, typically around 20mm, to facilitate as many engine blocks as possible, this further reduces accuracy. The CPL Racing bar is 40mm diameter.
- The CPL Racing line boring is carried out on modern high precision CNC machinery, with Renishaw probing for alignment and measuring.
